For Real Problems

Actual Resources.

This is a humor publication. The organizations below are not. If you arrived here looking for real guidance, real support, or real help, the links that follow are credible starting points.

The rest of this website is satire. This page is not. Below are organizations we did not create, have no affiliation with, and do not profit from — just a short, curated list of places a parent might genuinely want to know about. The list is not comprehensive. Inclusion is not an endorsement; these are simply organizations with established credentials in their respective areas.

If you are looking for something specific and do not see it here, any of the general organizations listed under "Child health & behavior" can usually point you toward a more specialized resource.

If someone is in immediate crisis

911

For any situation involving immediate danger to a child or anyone else. Always the right first call in an emergency.

988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline

24/7 free and confidential crisis support for suicidal thoughts, mental-health crises, and emotional distress — for the person in crisis or for someone worried about a loved one. Call or text 988, or chat at 988lifeline.org. Operated through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline

24/7 crisis counseling for anyone concerned about or affected by child abuse or neglect. Not an emergency service — call 911 for immediate danger — but a place to talk through a concern or get guidance on whether and how to report. Call or text 1-800-422-4453, or visit childhelphotline.org.

SAMHSA National Helpline

24/7 free and confidential referral service for mental-health and substance-use concerns, including for family members of someone struggling. Call 1-800-662-HELP (4357) or visit samhsa.gov/find-help/national-helpline.

Child health & behavior

HealthyChildren.org (American Academy of Pediatrics)

The AAP's consumer-facing parenting site. Articles on physical health, development, nutrition, sleep, behavior, and common concerns, reviewed by pediatricians. A good first stop for most everyday "is this normal?" questions. healthychildren.org

Child Mind Institute

An independent nonprofit focused on children's mental-health and learning challenges. The Family Resource Center has clearly written articles on anxiety, ADHD, depression, behavior, learning differences, and more — aimed at parents and caregivers. childmind.org

Zero to Three

Focused on the earliest years — pregnancy through age three. Parent-facing resources on developmental milestones, early behavior, sleep, feeding, and tantrums. zerotothree.org/resources/for-families

Media, screens, and teens

Common Sense Media

Independent reviews of movies, games, apps, and social media platforms from a kid-and-family perspective, plus guidance on screen time, digital citizenship, and online safety. commonsensemedia.org

If you need real legal help

American Bar Association — Lawyer Referral

Directory of state and local bar association referral services. If you have a legal issue and do not know where to start, your local bar's referral service is the standard first step. americanbar.org — Find Legal Help

Legal Services Corporation

A federally funded nonprofit that maintains a directory of legal-aid organizations for people who cannot afford an attorney. If cost is a barrier, this is the place to look. lsc.gov — Find Legal Aid

A note on this list. We are a humor publication with no credentials, no clinical expertise, and no ability to give advice about any specific situation. We assembled this page because we would rather a reader in a difficult moment end up on one of the sites above than on ours. The organizations listed here are independent of us, did not ask to be listed, and are named purely because they are well-established, credentialed sources in their areas. If any organization listed here objects to inclusion, write to editor@sueyourkid.com and we will remove it promptly.
